AC Drives

American Control Electronics offers two types of AC motor controls; Triacs and VFDs. All drives are designed to run on a single phase AC line with a single phase AC motor. However, some models can run three phase motors as well. Power configurations consists of 115 in - 115 out, 230 in - 230 out, and 115 in - 230 out.

Triac drives output voltage while maintaining a constant frequency, making them perfect for single phase motors that a require a small speed range, such as fan applications. These units will run off a 115 VAC single phase line for a 115 VAC single phase motor, or a 230 VAC single phase line for a 230 VAC single phase motor. The output frequency is the same as the input frequency.

Our microprocessor-based variable frequency drives will output a voltage to the AC motor that varies the voltage and frequency proportionally. This allows the AC motor to be turned down to a much lower speed compared to a triac drive. The input can be 50/60 Hz single phase and the output is 60 Hz, single or three phase. Some models are design for a 115 VAC input with a 115 VAC output. Other models, called "doublers", are designed for 115 or 230 VAC in and only 230 VAC out.
